Teaching Practice Phase 2 ( Week 1 & 2 )
I chose P.P.M.H.S Karakonam for my Phase Two teaching practice. The first week as teacher trainees went well overall. We began with an orientation class on the school's general operations. Our main responsibilities included teaching classes 8 to 9.
There were three teacher trainees, including myself. My supervising teacher, Mrs. Rajalekshmi, assigned me tp 2 divisions- 8G and 8A. I opted to teach 8th grade this time since I had taught 9th grade during the previous phase. Due to the limited number of trainees, we will share responsibility among the three of us. On the second day, I started teaching the prose 'The Boy Who Drew Cats' after getting acquainted with the students.
My duties also included morning tasks to maintain discipline during drop-off time and overseeing discipline during all intervals. This involved managing crowds, ensuring order, and watching out for students as the stairs and slopes were wet due to rain.
The first week went by quickly as we adjusted to the new schedule, roles, classes, and environment. Despite a bit of anxiety about the days ahead, the excitement remains strong.
The second week of Teaching Practice had many important events. During the second week the teacher trainees were grouped and assigned some important tasks like making year plan. We were much happier to make an year plan as its a completly new experience for each 3 of us.
The week included International Day against drug abuse. The school organized an anti drug use campaign where police officers from excise department educated students on the detrimental effects of drug abuse.
I had completed the chapter The Boy Who Drew Cats and starting taking the new chapter Taj Mahal. I intend to make the class engaging and interesting with lots of teaching aids and technological integration.
Overall, these two weeks were marked by productive teaching sessions, effective assessments, and valuable feedback that helped me refine my teaching strategies. The students showed significant progress, which was encouraging and motivated me to continue improving my teaching methods.
